OLTD 502 - DIGITAL learning continuum
Technological IMPLEMENTATION Plan
Learning Outcomes Covered:
· Demonstrate basic competency with design and implementation within a variety of online learning environments and tools
· Develop and design intentional learning activities suitable for the appropriate environment and the learner
· Scaffold digital citizenship from K-12 to professional level of educators
-Consider responsibility, accountability and civility in online environments
-Examine current research around best practices and emerging practices
The Technological implementation plan is itself a summary of my learning. It describes a misadventure that occurred when I tried to to get my Grade 5 students to create e-portfolios without adequately preparing for the activity or setting a proper educational outcome. It is an example of what can happen when you cut corners in your planning.
I selected it to represent my learning because I feel it was a good example of how a great deal of learning can be accomplished even when things go wrong. Often teachers, myself included, are reluctant to try new things and go away from familiar lessons. We want to be successful all the time and venturing out of our comfort zone means risking failure. My effort to get my students to create blogs of their own was, on the surface, a massive failure. However, out of that failure, a great deal of learning both on my part and on the part of my students occurred.
Beyond having the importance of planning and Digital Citizenship driven home to me, the biggest lesson I took away from creating my technological implementation plan was that I needn't fear taking risks. Mistakes are an important part of the learning process.

Flipping and Khan
Learning Outcomes Covered:
· Become familiar with common terms, definitions and elements related to online environments
· Plan learning opportunities most suitable to the strengths and challenges of a variety of environments
· Develop skills to optimize learning experiences through personalization
I selected Flipping and Khan as an example of my learning as it was my first encounter with Blended learning environments. Khan Academy introduced me to a new way of thinking about instruction. Competency Based learning, sometimes called mastery-based learning, was a concept it was new to me. I had one of those “A-ha!” moments. As soon as I heard about it it made total sense.
In doing this assignment, I discovered how technology could be leveraged to achieve differentiated instruction. It made me aware of the benefits of online learning and made me consider in what ways online learning could even be superior to face-to-face teaching.
